The difference between a picture that looks like the subject and one that gives more that a photograph is the eyes. I have a lot of practicing to do.

Re: Drawing the Human Eye

Seesmic video reply from Disqus.

Re: Drawing the Human Eye

this is great. it helped me so much

Re: Drawing the Human Eye

my goal for these tutorials is to add detail to your existing drawings. Most people miss out small details which make a difference in creating that realism. The same technique that you add on the left eye is used on the right eye so there is no difference. The reference photos that i show are just to show people the details that make up the eye. Most people don't notice these things and by actually seeing them and understanding them, you will begin to make them part of your drawings. Even if you do draw from life, you are drawing only what you can see. The purpose of the photographs is to understand with much more detail what you cannot see from real life. Its a tool to improve any drawing and it will make a big difference in any drawing or painting.

Re: Drawing the Human Eye

Interesting tutorial, the eye that is drawn is very well done. Great use of tone and value along with excellent detail. However, if this tutorial was designed to teach anyone how to draw an eye from the photo that is at the top of the tutorial then you've missed the mark by a mile. The light source of the drawing is no where near the light source of the model. Oh, and to further confuse the beginner you've drawn the right eye instead of the left eye which is in the photograph. It's always best to start from real life and then venture into the fantasy world.

M.
